Magical Mantras
Today I am thankful for…
Housed in a box with roots from china

Wrapped in recycled paper meant for an event in Singapore

From a girl with roots in Malaysia, building a life in Singapore and heart in Tibet, Vietnam and trot, trot, trot… globally.
From the wiki entry:
” Traditionally, prayer flags are used to promote peace, compassion, strength, and wisdom. The flags do not carry prayers to ‘gods’; a common misconception; rather, the Tibetans believe the prayers and mantras will be blown by the wind to spread the good will and compassion into all pervading space. Therefore, prayer flags are thought to bring benefit to all.
By hanging flags in high places the "Wind Horse" will carry the blessings depicted on the flags to all beings. As wind passes over the surface of the flags which are sensitive to the slightest movement of the wind, the air is purified and sanctified by the Mantras.”

Sun minus the humdrum
Visitors, music, food and glorious days in the sun.
It has been a spectacular 3 months, but now it is time to knuckle down and live life as a proper diligent medical student should.

A few of my favourite things
1. Receiving mail

3. Hand written letters
4. Discovering a new band
5. Reminiscing moments and conversations shared with a friend
Running through 1-5 in quick succession… priceless.
A little Forgiveness
Having someone download Broken Social Scene‘s new album, Forgiveness Rock Record, for you, just because you will be missing out on their show in July, then having said (compressed) album sent over to you online, complete with necessary extraction software, really really makes one’s day.
Thank you
Favourite track from preliminary listen- Ungrateful Little Father
Hello neighbour
The best friend is planning a trip down to Singapore from across the causeway to coincide with the time I will be back in Singapore in June. Best news in a long while.
Cannot wait.
I really love that woman.
One is indeed fortunate if one can find the few one can love with every fibre of one’s being.
PS: Sorry for the rather soppy posts of late, I blame the hormones! Proper post next round
Forget you not
One of the many fond memories I have of my time in Sydney happened in the wee hours of a very ordinary day.
It was with a friend I had just met a month prior, his name was Eugene.
We met for a late 3am coffee at a 24hr cafe (a rarity), on Sydney’s north side, across the harbour bridge. We chatted till 5 in the morning, and then he told me there was somewhere we needed to go, and quickly. We hopped into his little beat up car and drove. I must have fallen asleep during the journey, cause when I woke, we were parked on the edge of a cliff overlooking the ocean.
It was magic.
The sun came out over the horizon, and we sat on his bonnet in silence, capturing the moment.
On the way back to my place, we spotted an injured baby lorikeet on the road. Eugene, stopped the car, bundled the little fella up in his jacket and I held it on my lap as we made a detour to his place to make sure the bird was safe before he sent me home. We found an old shoe box in his room and left it there, till Eugene could bring it to the vet later in the day.
I always remember that day in Sydney, and sometimes wish I had been a better friend to Eugene, during my time in there. After I returned home to Singapore, I only saw him once again in 2004.
There are just some people you will never forget.
And the walls came tumbling down
A momentous day as walls come down and tiles come free from where they had previously formed a solid foundation, paving the way for new tiles, a new configuration and a new owner to make it home.

Now to go win those antique brass taps on ebay as a pre-housewarming gift
