Did not get round to posting this excellent birthday card made by the very talented Sonny Liew

None of the gnomes in my life look quite so scary, but hey, there’s always space in the brood for a vampire gnome I think! Still, I’m getting the boys to start work on a garlic patch in the garden as a precautionary measure

February 17, 2010The promise
September 28, 2009I need to get from New Delhi to Guatemala and back to India again in a weekend for a wedding.
This was an eleven year promise made way back between three friends who were all serving time in boarding school, a promise I would very much like to keep!
This wedding will be in the middle of my clinical elective, meaning, I cannot afford to miss a single day during my time in India, i.e: I have to depart friday evening, and return in time for a early monday morning start at the hospital.
Is it even possible?
Anyone knows Richard Branson personally? :p
Argh!
The box
September 5, 2009One simply cannot be good at maintaining all relationships equally, however, one can make the effort to sustain them for as long as one can. Sometimes factors such as geography, commitments or simply growing apart often result in both parties loosing touch for long periods of time. Who can one blame, really? I think, the most important thing is that one values human relations and values the fact that these people might have at some point in your life, played an integral role in shaping your views and opinions, lent you a listening ear, made you feel special, helped you through a rough patch, inspired and motivated you… and as a result, you will never forget them.
God knows I am a less than perfect friend, and I am often humbled by how much other people value my friendship. This is coming from someone who used to think relationships were fleeting and transient. I can only strive to work harder at maintaining these relationships and remind myself that I should never take anyone for granted.
Anyway this little introspective nonsense is a result of finding this suspicious looking box sitting outside my front door this evening.

Upon closer inspection, the top had a rather innocuous claim as to what the contents were.

Opening the box, I discovered there was indeed fruit! Presented most beautifully. How novel! My very first box of delivered fruit!

The card at the side, explained it all…

…and hence my little introspective schpill at the start.
Thank you so very much, Yap, Ling, Wenn and Sheepgirl, you really made my day today, it warms my heart to know that we can always pick up where we left off. Miffed that I cannot be part of the agency alumni, reunited, but glad that I will see you all in 7 weeks ![]()

Thank you from Sideshowjo.
PS: Ling, I do not have a photo with you in my notebook! We have to take a proper one come October.
What is money for?
June 16, 2009To buy time.

I would empty out my pockets for more time here in Singapore.
Shuband
May 25, 2009An old mate from boarding school recently started her line of ‘Shubands’, which should be available on etsy soon (as to an actual start date, I have no clue, come on already Shu!). I will post the link when she has it all up and running, in any case, I received my first one in the post today, so here’s a preview of good things to come
Yay indeed!
Fifteen pounds a pop.
And because I was on my chip eating/study break, here is a tribute to your Shuband, Shuwie!
PS: Pardon the greasy hair ![]()

May 9, 2009I had a surprise whirlwind visit last weekend from a favourite person and a package from Ling and Sheepgirl which made me the happiest I have been in a long while.

Sorry for the lack of posts.
4 weeks till the exams.
Revision is in full swing while we concurrently try to keep up with the inhumane weekly workload.
The household has stocked up on instant food staples. A poll showed that medical students were the most unhealthy students compared with university students from other faculties across Australia.
Cheryl has locked me out of Facebook by changing my password, and so have I to her account.
Cheryl allows me a 10 minute Facebook fix during dinner time.
Cheryl is a disciplinarian
Hibernation mode.
Will write again soon.
Love is in the air
April 23, 2009I used to find pre wedding photo shoots tacky and horribly cheesy but I find I am beginning to appreciate good wedding photography, don’t get me wrong I still would not opt to have any taken if/when they day comes, but I acknowledge, good wedding photography is truly an art.
A photograph that captures the essence and personality of two people with interesting angles and light as opposed to just having fancy fashion shots showing off make up and outfits, is, to me a mark of a good picture taken. A more photojournalistic approach is a style that appeals to me.
Wenn’s latest series of wedding photos taken by her very talented friend made me smile. Although not photojournalistic, the pictures are so characteristically Wenn. It is as if I am taking a walk through her world and imagination, not surprising as she conceptualised the entire shoot herself.

You are such a creative bunny Wenn.

The desperate housewife
April 4, 2009Living with two meticulous housemates means I have to chip in and do my share of chores, we vacuum, mop and clean once a week. This domestication is tiring, which is interesting because, although I absolutely abhor cleaning, I love cooking very much, but even that has become somewhat of a chore. Maybe it is because I am not very inspired to bake or cook, due to a few key factors:
1) Eating has become functional
2) The kitchen is very uninspiring
3) The oven is old and up till 3 weeks ago, had toxic cleaning residue smoke bellowing out from it whenever we turned it on
4) Time in the kitchen= less time for other things
There is however an occasion that happens every few weeks which allows me to bask in a few moments of culinary inspiration. I think of cakes, tarts, cookies, buns and all manner of pastries achievable with baking ingredients, some effort and heat.
Said occasion is ‘food duty’ during bi-weekly tutorial sessions.
The lengths some of my group mates have gone to when it is their turn for ‘food duty’ is just astounding, and shockingly it is our XY counterparts that are pulling out all the stops in bringing really delicious carefully thought out food (we have two dietary requirements: vegetarian, dairy free) for the group. From 8 layered grilled vegetable sandwhiches (mind you, he grilled all the bell peppers, zucchinis etc himself) to chocolate dipping pots with strawberries.
Embarrassingly, I have on two separate occasions brought:
1) Potato chips
2) Supermarket mixed nuts
In light of the fact that we will be breaking for easter on Thursday and I will be on food duty on that day, I have decided that I will put in a little bit more effort. My theory is, homemade items, no matter how rubbish will receive polite remarks, as people will be appreciative for the effort you put in regardless of how horrid it might be. Much like the ‘oh this is quite nice’ comments that were made when one group member brought homemade dairy free cookies, cookies that were hard enough to be used as doorstoppers.
I am debating between making one of two items
Carrot cake cupcake

Crunchy chocolate chip cookies

Photos and recipes generously shared with me by Sheepgirl, our resident Martha Stewart back when we were working at the agency.
Decisions, decisions.
Or…I could just cop out and bring junk food for the third time
