Fast food nation

May 26, 2009

It is an irony that the one time in the semester I should be eating healthy I end up eating quick meals and junk food. My brother used to binge on hot deep fried chicken during exam season, a welcomed treat during bitter cold London winters, aided by the fact that his local chicken and chip shop was just opposite his apartment (hard to turn a blind eye when the bright neon lights from the chicken shop beam straight into your room).

To hell with health the next two weeks.

Comfort food is one of the few things that I look forward to as I drown in academic misery.

KFC for lunch it is!

Shuband

May 25, 2009

An old mate from boarding school recently started her line of ‘Shubands’, which should be available on etsy soon (as to an actual start date, I have no clue, come on already Shu!). I will post the link when she has it all up and running, in any case, I received my first one in the post today, so here’s a preview of good things to come :)

shuband_noteYay indeed!

shubandFifteen pounds a pop.

And because I was on my chip eating/study break, here is a tribute to your Shuband, Shuwie!
PS: Pardon the greasy hair :)

Plates

May 23, 2009

Rachel Carley’s ceramics remind me of the 80’s, when my mother was still using pastel melamine plates to entertain. I love her colour palate and clean finishes, though I wish there were more of the dishes with text on sale, which, in retrospect, is a good thing there isn’t, for I would have snapped them up in an instant :) If you are interested, some of her wares are stocked here

Divine help

May 23, 2009

Every year, there are a few medical students in our university who become unwilling celebrities of sorts. These are the nerds generous souls with extra time on their hands, who create their own set of study notes for the year and from the kindness of their hearts, choose to share it with the year entering after them, oh! AND find the time to top the cohort as well.

Our year is very fortunate to be the benefactors of three such sets of notes.
Andrew Hutchinson now in year 3: Coined the ‘Hutchie’ set
Marko and Mel also in year 3: Coined ‘Markandmel’s’ set

And very recently, the ‘Divine’ set, put out by Matt Devine, now in year 2.

A facebook group has been created called ‘The Matt Devine Appreciation Club’ where the creators came up with very witty one liners glorifying our great Matt. Here are a few personal favourites.

“Matt Devine had sex at the back of a truck, one of his sperm escaped, that truck is now known as optimus prime”

“Death had a near Matt Devine experience”

“Matt Devine can kill two stones with one bird”

Cracks me up.

Picture 1I got sucked into the evil vortex of affordable (ok affordable is a relative word, I should say, under $100) shopping. I should find a better, healthier, CHEAPER, way to de-stress.

Must stop.

Now.

But, for all of you who have an income, the vortex is a lovely place :)

Eley Kishimoto

May 13, 2009

I have been a huge fan of Eley Kishimoto from when I first saw the label in Hong Kong back in 2005. Their designs are so whimsical and dreamy.
